Flake White Hue - A titanium based white formulated to mimic the characteristics of the original hazardous lead based Flake White. It has a lower tinting strength than Titanium White and a warmer hue, therefore, having less influence on mixtures. It has a similar drying rate to Flake White.
Cremnitz White - an old-fashioned type of lead carbonate (without added zinc oxide), is slower drying and therefore less suitable as a primary white than Foundation White. It has a rather stringy consistency.
Iridescent White - A pearlescent white, which is particularly effective when mixed with transparent colours, or used on dark backgrounds.
Titanium White - (Permanent White) The whitest and most opaque of the range, it is in many ways a modern replacement for Flake White. However, because of its strength it may overwhelm weaker more transparent colours. Whilst it is a fairly slow drier, it is popular as a 'mixing' white and probable the most widely accepted white in use.
Transparent White - A unique transparent Titanium pigment is used in this colour to produce the most Transparent White available. Ideal for glazes and mixtures when the artist wishes to avoid opacity, covering and the production of pale tints. a medium drier.
Zinc White Excellent for making tints and glazing, the least opaque of whites. It has a pure, cold white appearance and is particularly suitable for mixtures with cool colours, dries slowly and will tend to form a harder, more brittle film than other whites.
Foundation White Ideal for priming or foundation coats as it is ground in Linseed Oil. It should be applied on top of a coat of glue size. Thin with Turpentine or White Spirit, and allow to dry overnight between coats. Wait for 3-4 days before overpainting.
Underpainting White(Fast Drying) - For general use preparing grounds or mixing into oil colours. Underpainting White resists yellowing, is excellent for extensive modelling as it is ground in Linseed Oil and can be used throughout the painting. It dries quickly to a flat-matt finish, although impasto will take longer depending upon the thickness. Grounds should be glue-sized prior to application.
